What is occupational therapy?

If you don't know what OT is then watch my quick video below (along with lockdown hair)

I assess and work with children aged 3 to 18 years old (and sometimes older)

My objective is to understand your child in terms of how independent they are and barriers to this, how confident they are socially and in the classroom or at home and what makes them happy.

I have a good understanding of SEND regulations in school, applying for an EHCP and what a good one would look like. I also work with SEN solicitors preparing for tribunals. Also, if you need help in identifying a suitable school for your child let me know.

I work with you, your child, their school (if they have one) and our relationship is paramount to our success.

Please also have a look at the wearable neurotechnology I've been using since October 2019. For some children and adults it can be simply life changing. I state my reputation on that. See STORE for more

Does your child need OT?

Is OT needed for your child? I don’t accept all work that is referred to me as OT has its place in benefiting children, let’s have a look at some examples in life that would certainly benefit from OT:

-My child can’t ride a bike yet without stabilizers…

-My child struggles with his/her handwriting…

-My child struggles with a knife and fork and would prefer not to use them so uses their hands…

-My child has poor attention in the classroom and is always in trouble with their teacher…

-My child cannot follow instructions and seems to be ignoring me…

-My child is so unorganised it makes me stressed…

-My child is suffering from low confidence….

These are the most frequent reason that my phone rings. If you look at these questions they could be describing lots of children you know. As an OT we aim to understand why these things may be happening. Is the activity age appropriate? Is it affecting their confidence?  Is it a sensory problem rather than behavioural? Are there motor skill problems? Is their core strength age appropriate?

All of these questions are answered and if appropriate OT can be provided.
